in the changelog from Release 2.1, October 10, 2008 is written that I do not need the context.xml file to avoid the useage of cookies.

Without a context.xml file firefox shows me that a cookie is used and I have problems if I reload my application.

Is this only working for the swing renderer? I am using the html renderer.

oh, yes - you are right, talking out of the thin renderer perspective... (HT* components). Here we are not the "master of http" but it#s the browser, directly.

For thin rendering scenarios you still have to go thriough context.xml.

The reason why we did something on top of context.xml was, that context.xml is not properly supported on all application servers. No problem with Tomcat, but we had problems with BEA.
